Health Need: Maternal Health
Healthy mothers giving birth to healthy babies are the foundation of a thriving family and growing community—but with an alarming and growing frequency, families are facing medical tragedies at what should be a happy time. Pregnancy-related deaths have doubled in the U.S. between 1987 and 2014, and severe, unexpected poor health consequences for new mothers have risen by 75 percent in the past decade. These poor outcomes disproportionately affect Black women.
