Uninsured and underinsured women in the Philadelphia region often experience challenges when trying to receive a mammogram. With limited access to health services that could catch cancer early, this underserved community is 60 percent more likely to die from breast cancer.
The Penn Medicine Breast Health Initiative (PMBHI) makes its mission to screen and treat patients early. Offering free breast cancer screenings and breast health education, among other support services, this program provides the much-needed relief for patients. Since the launch of the program in 2014, more than 3,000 patients have been served.
